Seven swans a swimming…

Let me start by explaining how idyllic August on the lake at Trevignano really is, with little more than deciding what time the morning and afternoon swim should be, an average temperature of low 30s, a flat mirrored lake with visibility of a few metres, a slight afternoon breeze bringing up tiny waves and bringing out the windsurfers, and the main decisions being whether to meander by foot or by bike to the water, and what to have for the all important meals…some photos to set the scene:

I was lucky enough to spend every teenage summer here and find myself slipping back into the old routine rather easily I must say (although admittedly there was a bit more nightclubbing on beaches in the early hours for the latter part, now it’s more live music while sipping some vino, evidence below, in our newest favourite bar skipper right on the beach)

One of my favourite moments this year happens every day, on said beach during our morning swim usually, when the swan family makes it’s way along the entire length of the lake beach. I’ve been trying to capture this on camera for a while but it is difficult from the shore, so serendipidously enough for the first time I had my camera with me when swimming and sure enough I spotted the first of the 7 ducklings swimming along towards me…the photos below are kind of in sequence…I think I’ll try to film this too as it really is quite exceptional watching them gracefully swimming along in and out of kids, lilos, pedalos, windsurfs and everyone stopping in their tracks to let them through and to watch…Trevignapagos?!!!

Interestingly enough there is something rather mystical about 7 swans a swimming, and given it’s a religious based day, ferragosto, 15th August, thought I’d add the list of the 7 gifts of the holy spirit that the swans represent in the 12 days of Christmas, a random fact I certainly didn’t know until I looked it up!:

1) prophecy 2) ministry, 3) teaching 4) exhortation (not extortion which I initially thought was a little uncharitable!!!) 5) giving 6) leading and 7) compassion…sure they named each cygnet accordingly!!!!

Latino Europe for a change…!

Madrid, Portugal, follies, family, fun…

A Portugese folly with an aussiepom rabble of little brother, Loc and Nicki…

Does my hair look big in this???

Loc competes with wombat for ‘where is’ status…

Cascais…Portugal up there in my fav countries list…one small detail lacking, utterly freezing sea, did wonder why nobody was in past the knees!!!
